The RI Home Birth Collective (RIHBC) was founded in the Fall of 2010. The RIHBC aims to provide information and resources about home birth options, while facilitating a community of support for families planning or considering a home birth. The collective is serving as a catalyst for face-to-face discussion and community building through events and group meetings, and will continue to provide a space for a robust onilne community using social media.
Home Birth has only become openly accessible in Rhode Island over the past several years. Because of this, information about home birth was difficult to find. Rhode Island is in an exciting moment in regards to home birth! With help of organizations like The Rhode Island Birth Network, information about birth practitioners is becoming easier to find- and a diverse community is growing around evidence based care. The RI Home Birth Collective would like to continue this work by providing the community with information about home birth and facilitating the development of a community and culture that supports a family's choice to welcome their child in their home. RIHBC has begun to explore the policies and regulations that surround home birth in RI, and is working to develop strategies that will ultimately make home birth a more accessible option for families in RI.
